Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration committee of Ghana's Parliament, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije has announced Worcester's landmark proclamation supporting Ghanaian participation and engagement during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Mr Vanderpuiye disclosed this upon return from a successful four-day official trip to Worcester, Massachusetts, US during a media engagement at the Accra International Airport on Monday 6 April.

During this important visit, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South Constituency, engaged in high-level discussions with the Mayor of Worcester and key stakeholders regarding the next steps of the landmark proclamation which highlights collaboration on fan engagement activities, cultural exhibitions, interfaith events, and community partnerships between Worcester and Ghana.

Mr. Vanderpuije, who also serves as Chairman of the Committee established under Ashton Travels and Tour to facilitate and coordinate the mobilization of Ghanaian fans to the FIFA World Cup, used the visit to strengthen strategic partnerships and advance plans for Ghanaian participation in Worcester’s proposed host city activities.

As part of his itinerary, he also toured the Black Stars training camp in Rhode Island and inspected a range of facilities, including hotels, hostels, restaurants, and public spaces, being considered to host and accommodate Ghanaian fans and delegates during the tournament period.

Mr. Kelvis Albert Quaynor, CEO and Founder of Back of House Concepts, a workforce solutions company based in Seattle, whose vision continues to drive this international collaboration believes the visit further reinforced cooperation between the City of Worcester and Ghanaian stakeholders, with a shared commitment to promoting cultural exchange, community unity, and economic opportunities in the lead-up to the global tournament.

Ghana have been drawn into Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and will face Panama, England, and Croatia. The Black Stars has featured in the 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022 editions of the global tournament.

Amidst the dismissal of its coach, Otto Addo few weeks to the tournament, the team is looking to build on their previous World Cup performances, having made it to the quarterfinals in 2010.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 running from June 11 to July 19 will be the 23rd edition of the tournament but the first to feature 48 teams and three host countries: Canada, Mexico and the United States.

As stated on its website, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has told representatives of the 16 Host Cities for the FIFA World Cup 26™ that the “joyful atmosphere” they create for fans at the tournament will have a positive impact on the world.
