The Member of Parliament for Walewale, Hon. Dr. Mahama Tiah Abdul Kabiru, has issued a strict three-month deadline to contractors for the rehabilitation of the abandoned Janga Nuria E/A Primary School.

The school, which has been out of use for five years due to severe rain damage, is set to be restored to provide a safe and conducive learning environment for pupils.

Hon. Kabiru made the announcement during an inspection of ongoing projects within the constituency on Friday. He emphasized the urgency of completing the school’s reconstruction so that pupils can return to their classrooms without further delay.

This school has been out of use for five years because of rain damage. We cannot continue to deny our children access to safe learning spaces, he stated passionately.

Taking personal responsibility, the MP disclosed that he has fully taken over the stalled rehabilitation project. He pledged to monitor progress closely to ensure that the 90-day deadline is met.

I will oversee every step to ensure that the work is completed on time, he affirmed.

During the visit, Hon. Kabiru called on district assemblies across the region to prioritize education in their development plans. He highlighted that abandoned school projects undermine community trust and negatively impact learning outcomes.

If we want real development, education must come first. Assemblies should commit resources to complete and maintain school infrastructure, he urged.

The Headteacher of Janga Nuria E/A Primary School expressed gratitude for the MP’s intervention, noting that previous efforts to have the school fixed by the assembly had yielded no results. He expressed hope that the contractor would meet the timeline, ensuring that teachers and students can return to a safe environment.

The headteacher also reported a decline in student enrollment, as some parents have withdrawn their children due to the unsafe condition of the main school block. Currently, three classrooms have been combined to accommodate six classes.

Several challenges remain, including inadequate teachers bungalow, a block for the school feeding program, and an abandoned headteacher’s office.

Residents and school authorities in Janga welcomed the intervention, recalling that students have been studying in crowded classrooms and makeshift sheds since the main building became unsafe in 2022.

Reconstruction work on Janga Nuria E/A Primary School is set to commence immediately. The MP pledged to return for the official commissioning in July 2026.

As part of his ongoing constituency tour, Hon. Dr. Mahama Tiah Abdul Kabiru is also inspecting other projects, including a 95% completed Reproductive Health and Child Center at Janga, the community-led Nasia abandoned maternity ward (expected to be completed within two months), and the construction of a teachers’ bungalow at Boamasa.

Additionally, sod has been cut for a three-unit classroom block at Bimbini. Many residents and local authorities have lauded the MP’s dedication and hard work, describing his achievements as unprecedented for a first-time MP. They praise his effective representation in Parliament, asserting that they could not have chosen a better person to serve Walewale.
