Nearly four years after a heavy rainstorm caused significant damage to the bridge linking the communities of Tinguri and Gbani along the Walewale-Nalerigu highway, residents and motorists are still waiting for urgent repairs.

The unresolved issue continues to pose serious safety risks and hampers daily transportation and economic activities in the area.
The damage to the bridge was first reported during a heavy downpour in August 2023.
Since then, multiple promises have been made by political leaders, the Ghana Highway Authority, and local government officials to repair or replace the structure. Unfortunately, these assurances have yet to materialize into concrete action, leaving the communities stranded and vulnerable.
In an effort to ease the situation, a temporary bridge was constructed to divert traffic from Tinguri to Gbani, allowing some movement while repairs were supposed to take place. However, the contractor responsible for rebuilding the damaged bridge has not reported to the site or started any work since the temporary structure was put in place.

This has left the communities in limbo, with no clear timeline for when the repairs will begin.
Residents have expressed frustration over the ongoing neglect. They report that the poor condition of the road damages vehicles regularly, leading to costly repairs and dangerous travel conditions.
Motorbikes are often forced to fly-tie, a risky and makeshift method of securing loads, to navigate the treacherous route daily. The approaching rainy season has heightened concerns that the situation could worsen, potentially leading to more severe damage, accidents, or even complete collapse of the structure.
Community members are calling on the Ghana Highway Authority, the North East Regional Minister, and the West Mamprusi Municipal Chief Executive to prioritize this issue and expedite the repair process.

They also appeal for transparency and accountability from the responsible agencies, stressing that their safety and livelihoods depend on swift action. The residents hope that the government will treat this matter as a priority and restore safe passage along this crucial route.
As the situation remains unresolved, the communities continue to suffer the consequences of government inaction, emphasizing the urgent need for a lasting solution.
