Give Queiroz Full Control and Time to Build

Sports writer Mohammed Issah has called for patience and support for newly appointed Black Stars Head Coach Carlos Queiroz, urging stakeholders to allow the veteran tactician the freedom to work independently.

Speaking on Wake Up Tamale on Radio Tamale 91.7 FM, he stressed that Queiroz must be given full control over player selection, warning against any form of external interference.

He noted that for the team to make meaningful progress, the coach must be “his own man” and not be swayed by what he described as “invisible hands.”

Issah also pointed to Queiroz’s age, 73 as a potential advantage, rather than a concern. He explained that the Portuguese coach’s vast experience in international football positions him well to act as a father figure within the squad, helping to guide younger players while instilling discipline and professionalism.

He further welcomed the coach’s reported interest in paying closer attention to players in the domestic league. According to Issah, this approach could broaden the talent pool and ensure that in-form local players are given a fair opportunity to compete for places in the national team.

Looking ahead, he urged fans and administrators to adopt a long-term perspective when assessing Queiroz’s tenure. He argued that while results remain important, they should not be the sole measure of success.

Even if the team falls short of reaching the quarter-finals in a major tournament, Issah believes the coach should still be considered for a longer stay, provided the team shows clear signs of improvement and delivers competitive performances.

His comments come amid ongoing discussions about the future of the Black Stars, with many observers emphasizing the need for stability, trust, and a clear technical direction under the new leadership of Queiroz.
