One year after assuming office as the Mayor of Tamale, residents of the greater Tamale have expressed mixed reactions regarding the performance of the Hon. Abu Takoro, reflecting both praise and concerns over the administration’s achievements and policies.
In separate interviews, community members shared their views on how the Mayor has handled key issues within the metropolis. While some residents acknowledged efforts to address pressing urban challenges, others voiced dissatisfaction with certain policies.
Alhassan Ramadan, a resident, commended the Mayor’s initiatives aimed at easing congestion in the city.
He is making efforts to stop congestion in town, which will enable free movement and also prevent accidents, he said, expressing optimism about future improvements.
Another resident praised ongoing development projects, particularly the construction of a 24-hour economy market.
To be honest, Abu Takoro is working. I’m saying this because the government is building the 24-hour economy market, which we will all benefit from, the resident stated, highlighting progress in economic development.
However, not all feedback has been positive. Some community members feel that certain policies, especially those targeting traders, have not met expectations.
A resident criticized the decongestion exercise, particularly the removal of traders from the bicycle lanes without providing alternative spaces.
He’s not working because when you want to stop traders from the pavement, as a Mayor you should first find a place for them. If they don’t comply, then you can continue with the decongestion exercise, they explained.
The diverse opinions reflect a community that appreciates the ongoing development efforts but remain concerned about the implementation of policies that directly affect livelihoods.
As the Mayor’s tenure continues, residents hope that future initiatives will balance urban development with the needs of all residents.
